The weekend days of the week are as important as our perfectly organized and scheduled work week days. It’s pretty easy to stay in our healthy routines during the week because we don’t have much time for anything else!
The freedom that the weekend offers can be challenging and dangerous if you are not prepared. It is this time that you really need to dig deep for your self control and discipline. You cannot go back to skipping meals, to eating whatever you want, or to eating huge meals at the family get together. Don’t destroy the hard work that you’ve put in during the week.
Here are some tips to help you on the weekends:
*Plan your day’s schedule the day before and put it in your calendar along with what time you will be going the gym and what time you’ll eat your meals.
*Prior to the weekend, put on your calendar when you will grocery shop for your foods and also put your cooking and prepping times on your calendar. The weekend is the perfect time to set yourself up for a successful week. Get the family involved and make it a healthy family affair or put on your favorite TV show, movie, or music as you prep.
*Drink your water as usual and take all vitamins & supplements
*Try to get the same hours of sleep per night that you get during the week. I recommend 7-8 hours of sleep per night. If you are going to bed at midnight, then set your alarm for 7am or 8am.
*There is no need to “catch up” on sleep on the weekends. Stay on your normal sleep schedule.
*Do not sacrifice your goals to appease others. For example, you’re not being rude by not eating your mom’s lasagna dish or declining that margarita from a friend at the pool. This is about putting YOU first and you deserve this goal. You’ve already made the decision to become healthier and more fit. Do not let others influence you with their offerings or lifestyles. And yes, sadly enough – they will try to tempt you.
*Take your meals/snacks with you when you go out for activities and/or errands. Things come up when we are out and about and we end up being gone longer than expected. I do not want you in that fast food drive thru line! Your food is cleaner than any restaurant you’ll drive by. Your foods are your tools to your fit body AND you’ll save some money along the way.
*Keep yourself busy with house projects, activities, errands, etc. on the weekends. The more you lounge around the house bored, the likelier you are going to eat out of pure boredom.
*Keep hydrated, have a coffee, a tea, or a piece of gum.
*Plan activities on the weekends that do not revolve around food. Get out and be active or explore your town.
*If a friend asks you to dinner, ask them if they can meet for a coffee instead. Don’t be afraid to steer them to a non-food related activity.
I never said it would be easy, but it WILL be worth it 🙂
